May 2003

The General Sherman Monument, in honor of Civil War general William Tecumseh Sherman, is part of President's Park South. The park encompasses a large area south of the White House, Eisenhower Executive Office Building and Treasury Building. It's most prominent feature is The Ellipse.

Among the other features of the President's Park South are memorials to the First and Second Divisions of the U.S. Army, and the Boy Scout Memorial. It is also where the National Christmas Tree is erected each holiday season.
