The Summerhouse, off the northwest corner of the Capitol, is a small brick structure which was constructed between 1879 and 1881.

Each state is allowed two statues as part of the National Statuary Hall Collection in the Capitol. One of Wisconsin's two statues is that of Father Jacques Marquette, a Jesuit missionary who, along with fur trader Louis Jolliet, led the first group of Europeans to explore what is now Wisconsin.

Statues of Thomas Jefferson (left) and George Washington (right) in the Rotunda of the Capitol. While the Washington statue is part of the National Statuary Hall Collection, the Jefferson statue is not.
